    German Johnson - Indeterminate

High yielding, vigorous plants with deep pink fruits bearing earlier than other Brandywine-types.

Medium-sized fruits are crack resistant, have few seeds and are good for slicing, cooking, or canning. Fruits are acidic with a creamy texture and exceptional flavor.

    Soil Nutrients and Requirements

Tomatoes yield best in clay or loam soils that are well drained and high in organic matter. They can tolerate acid soil as low as 5.5, but they prefer to grow in 6.0-6.8 range. Using calcitic lime or gypsum can help to maintain a base saturation for calcium or 65-80 percent. Use a high phosphorus fertilizer for transplants. Take care not to over-fertilize with Nitrogen as this can result in more foliage but lower yields.

    Seeding Depth
    Planting depth: 1/8-1/4".

    Plant Spacing
Plant spacing: for determinate varieties 12-18", for indeterminate 24-36".

    When to Sow
Transplant outdoors after danger of frost has passed.

    CULTURAL INFO

Basil (Ociumum spp.) is a tender annual that prefers warm weather and rich soil. It is a popular culinary herb, cut flower, and can be used as a medicinal herb to calm the stomach.

    Soil Nutrients and Requirements
Basil needs well drained but moist soil that is highly fertile. It is not drought tolerant, so even moisture levels are important for healthy growth.

    Plant Spacing
    Transplanting at 4-8" is recommended.

    When to Sow
Start transplants indoors 6 weeks prior to planting out, or direct seed mid-spring through late summer. Basil is very sensitive to cold. Pinch buds to encourage branching and leaf production.

    Harvest
Harvest can begin once plants have become established, by pinching or cutting branches but leaving the plant to continue to produce leaves. A harvest of the full plant should be completed just before the plant starts to flower.

    Storage
Store unwashed at room temperature to avoid browning. Do not store below 50°F.
